Wednesday we packed up the car and headed south. We stopped for meals twice, and took it easy on the way there, so we arrived about 9 hours later. Checked in at our hotel and went to go check out the town a little bit.
Thursday early morning we got up and headed to the Las Vegas Convention Center where the show was held. We were "opinion leaders" so first we had to go "work". We basically had to go through one part of the show and state our opinions on a piece of paper. We also got a free t-shirt for doing this :)
After we finished with that, we had free reign of the whole show. So we walked, and walked, and walked, aisle after aisle looking at cars, and car products! It was pretty awesome! Outside they had a "car show" with hundreds of cars, all different and special in their own way. They also had set up a drifting track, so we got to watch mustangs drift out there. There was a lot to see and do. We probably took thousands of pictures!
After the shows end thursday we were pretty tired after all the walking, and all the impressions, so we took it easy and relaxed at the hotel.
Friday morning we again headed for the SEMA show, just accross a big parking lot. We visited a lot of companies. To mention some; Ford, Chevy, Hyundai, Toyota, Kia, Local Motors, House of Kolor, Bondurant racing school. We saw engines, (some with 3500 horsepower!), transmissions capable of up to 2500 hp (and they only cost $2800!! pretty cheap..), superchargers, turbos, aftermarket parts, body kits (like a camaro made to look like a pontiac), prototype cars, new cars on the market, kit cars and lots and lots of other products and fun people. We really enjoyed the show a lot. We got to expereince something we never thought we would, and we learned a lot too.
The show ended with a cruise, most of the cars that had been parked all week were now ready to go back home. It was awesome getting to see and hear the cars pass us by. It had rained for a few minutes, so it was just wet enough that it was easy to do burnouts too, some did, some didn't. It was a great ending to a great show!
After the cruise was over we headed out for dinner, we just had to go to Buffalo Wild Wings! It is one of our favorite restaurants, also where we had our first date. They don't have any in Utah :( We enjoyed good chicken wings and moved on to "the strip". We had been invited to a SEMA afterparty on the 64th (!!!) floor, the penthouse, of "THE Hotel". It was fun, great view and some fun people.
After hanging out up there for a while we decided we hadn't seen enough of Vegas yet, so we walked up the strip to see some more. We stopped by the Luxor, MGM, New York New York, the Bellagio and walked all the way to Paris. It was a lot of nice buildings to look at!
After a long, slow walk, my pregnant self can't walk too fast or too far now a days, we went back to the hotel.
Saturday we checked out of the hotel and headed out for a nice brunch. After looking around for a little while we found the perfect nice little restaurant the "Grand Lux Cafe" inside the "Venetian Hotel". They had very good food, and for once we actually ordered (and finished!!) desert. We walked around some more, looked at the Venetian, the Mirage and Treasure Island. We actually got to witness a couple getting married on the Pirate Ship out there too. It was nice :) We took it easy and just relaxed. And we left Las Vegas at about 6pm. We drove home in about 7 hours, just eating on the road. It was nice to sit in the car and relax, talk about everything we had seen and dream about the future.
It was a really great trip. We actually realized it was our first vacation just us two together! (Not counting our trips when moving!).
Sunday we relaxed at home and looked through all the stuff we had gotten at the SEMA Show.
